What is the FoodAtEase Score?

Understanding Our Rating System

3 min read

The FoodAtEase Score is a 1-5 star rating based on FSSAI's Indian Nutrition Rating (INR) algorithm. It is calculated scientifically — no opinions, just math.

Star Ratings

5★
Grade A — Excellent choice. Low in harmful nutrients.
4★
Grade B — Good choice. Minor concerns.
3★
Grade C — Average. Consume in moderation.
2★
Grade D — Below average. Limit consumption.
1★
Grade F — Poor choice. High in harmful nutrients.

Calculation Method

The score is calculated in two parts:

Baseline Points (Negative)

Points are added for:

  • • Energy (calories)
  • • Sodium
  • • Sugar
  • • Saturated Fat

Higher points = worse score

Modifying Points (Positive)

Points are subtracted for:

  • • Protein
  • • Fiber
  • • Fruit/Veg/Nut content

Higher points = better score

Final Score = Baseline Points − Modifying Points

Lower final score = More stars
